Disaster Assistance Network for Animals (DANA) began with a simple idea and a deep concern for animal safety during disasters. In 2017, ahead of Hurricane Irma, our founder recognized the urgent need for a more organized way to connect evacuees with resources for their animals. Eliza created the Evacuation List, a grassroots effort shared across Facebook, where volunteers offered transportation, shelter, and support for displaced livestock and pets. What started with a few states along the East Coast quickly grew into a nationwide network of compassionate individuals and organizations ready to help in times of crisis. Following Hurricane Helene, the organization officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2024. Today, Disaster Assistance Network for Animals continues to provide critical aid in the form of evacuation support, preparedness resources, and emergency donations—ensuring that animals and their caregivers are never alone when disaster strikes.
